The play of the two-hand sword between two: First judge the distance between yourself and your foe. Make a sign to your opponent with a large hawk all the way to the ground. Make three rolling strokes, and then cut to the other side with a hawk.
The Second Lesson

The second lesson: A chase, or a hawk with a quarter borne in by a cockstep. Open the way for a hawk by chasing in with a foin, and end with a quick spring.

Strike a broken half-hawk and finish by setting the sword down by the feet.

The ninth lesson and the second taking up: Standing still on the earth, strike three hawks on each side, and guard strongly by moving to safety. Then pass forward and strike a hawk quarter. Strike a double quarter with your hands and feet borne over the head. Strike a guided hawk setting down by the feet.

The eleventh lesson and the third taking up: Make a spring with one hand right up to the face. Strike a broken half round while stepping in. From a reverence with the cross of your hilt make a long carter stroke smiting flat down the back. Strike a double broken spring while drawing back the feet. Make a long double rake: take two steps, and on each one make two rakes, so that at the passage’s end you have smitten four rakes. Again turn in with a long double rake. Then make the turning strike starting from the other side, by bringing your sword up to your right shoulder and ending with a hawk setting down the sword by your feet.
